Two American ports are blocking $3 million worth of fuel bound for Cuba RFI — Amériques |
The tensions. Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla blamed the embargo for shortages of fuel, medicine, and food. US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz rejected these arguments by citing US exports to Cuba and attributing the island's difficulties to its government, according to UN News. Furthermore, Cuban officials accused Washington of having threatened countries with retaliation in the event of a favorable vote, according to Al Jazeera. |
The blockade. Ahead of this vote, interventions in two ports located in the United States blocked fuel intended for the Cuban authorities with an estimated value of around 3 million dollars, according to RFI — Amériques. This cargo involved a private company hit by restrictive measures since July 2026. |
The scope. The resolution adopted by the UN is non-binding. The effective lifting of this embargo, in effect for more than six decades, falls exclusively within the purview of the US Congress. |
