Dr. Michaël C. O. Jonathan Désir, a doctor of theology and leadership expert, presented a new approach for improving security in Haiti's working-class neighborhoods during the Salon des Invités. According to him, youth must become the main pillar of this collective protection.

Dr. Désir emphasized that institutional inertia had allowed criminals to dominate certain areas before the kidnapping of four Salvadoran soldiers on October 18, which finally led to a concrete reaction from the government. He stated: "Neighborhood security must be driven by youth and education."

For this approach to be effective, it is necessary to invest massively in civic and moral education to transform the potential of youth into conscious civic engagement. Dr. Désir also insisted on the importance of structured leadership: this dynamic must be framed and administered in perfect synergy with local institutions.

Uncompromising diagnosis

Dr. Jonathan Désir criticized the authorities' passivity regarding security problems in working-class neighborhoods, noting that the intervention against gangs only truly began after the kidnapping of the Salvadoran soldiers.

Proposals for change

Dr. Jonathan Désir proposes using youth as a protective force by combining theological ethics and managerial rigor, emphasizing that trusting young people and equipping them is the only path toward sustainable security in the country.
