The Jacmel Municipal Commission, under the supervision of Deputy Mayors Stephanie Edward Lafontant and Julie Leclerc, conducted a large-scale cleanup campaign in Jacmel from October 23 to October 25, 2026. The initiative aimed at removing abandoned and non-operational vehicles across several strategic areas within the city, including Saint-Michel Hospital and Lakou Nouyòk.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by municipal authorities to maintain public health standards and prevent the spread of infectious diseases like anthrax, which remains a significant concern in Jacmel. Additionally, the campaign focused on renovating both the interior and exterior of the city's inactive slaughterhouse, which had been out of use for over nine years.
The Southeast Departmental Directorate of Agriculture and the Ministry of Public Health are collaborating with local officials to enhance sanitary oversight at the renovated facility, ensuring that meat sold in Jacmel meets health standards.
