Former deputy Gary Bodeau filed his application for the presidency with the Departmental Electoral Bureau (BED) for the West on Thursday, October 29, 2026. He appeared under the banner of the Rekonsilye platform, accompanied by several of its candidates for the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. On the occasion, he said the political transition had been going on for too long.
According to Juno7, the candidates included the artist Atros, who is running for a Senate seat for the West department. The filing took place on route de Frères, according to the outlet.
Three priorities for his presidential platform
According to Vant Bèf Info, Gary Bodeau put security at the top of his platform, followed by job creation and decentralization. The outlet explains that decentralization is meant to give the regions more weight in national development.
Vant Bèf Info points out that the candidate did not detail the concrete measures he intends to take to carry out this policy. The outlet adds that the platform still says nothing about funding mechanisms or the timetable for implementation.
The CEP's calendar under review
Both outlets report that Gary Bodeau announced a meeting with his team to review the electoral calendar proposed by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). Vant Bèf Info indicates that Rekonsilye is then expected to settle on its position on these dates.
Juno7 places the filing the day after the publication of the updated calendar. According to the outlet, the CEP is planning the first round of the presidential and legislative elections for July 18, 2027. The second round and the local elections are set for October 4. Juno7 notes that the candidate presented this consultation neither as an approval nor as a rejection of the calendar.
A capital in the Northwest
Also according to Juno7, Gary Bodeau repeated that he would move the capital to the Northwest department if he won the presidency. He had already defended the idea at a political rally.
Filing the documents does not amount to validation: whether the application is admissible and whether his candidacy is accepted remain subject to electoral procedures.
