Today's topic returns to the disruptions that affected Guadeloupe's roads this Wednesday, marked by roadblocks set up in several municipalities across the archipelago. These protest actions heavily impacted economic activity and traffic, requiring the intervention of the authorities. |
The blockades. On Wednesday, several roads in the archipelago were blocked by a local collective. Tuff, rubble, pallets, and vehicles were used to cut off traffic, notably at the entrance to the Jarry industrial and commercial zone in Baie-Mahault. Other disruptions were reported in the sectors of Îlet Pérou, Sainte-Marie, La Boucan, Sainte-Rose, Durivage, and Sainte-Anne. |

The impacts. According to Karibinfo, this lost activity cannot be made up for business owners and employees. At the same time, La Poste trade unions extended their movement across the entire territory in reaction to difficult conditions. The authorities urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid these areas. |
The intervention. Prefect Thierry Devimeux ordered the intervention of law enforcement and the clearing of roads by requisitioned machinery. He refused to meet with the "Nou Las Palé" collective, which had set up the roadblocks, stating that he was already working with other organizations. The prefect stated that it is unacceptable for a minority to block Guadeloupe's economy. |
The aftermath. After a calm pause in the late afternoon, tensions returned early in the evening when certain members of the collective attempted to prevent the cleanup. A new roadblock was established and burning debris on the roads was reported. |
