The security situation in Croix-des-Bouquets is marked by a Salvadoran military presence and search operations. President Nayib Bukele has stepped up social media interventions regarding the fate of four missing technicians.

The disappearance. Four Salvadoran aviation technicians, members of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), disappeared on October 18 during an ambush in Croix-des-Bouquets. While 400 Mawozo gang leader Wilson Joseph told the Associated Press that they were dead, the Haitian government maintains the kidnapping theory and Salvadoran authorities hope to find them alive.

The search. On Monday, November 2, a joint operation by the Haitian National Police (HNP), the GSF, and Salvadoran soldiers made it possible to locate the burned-out vehicle of the missing men in Santo. This intervention, supported by drones and heavy equipment to clear barricades, met with no resistance.

The military escalation. El Salvador has deployed more than 2,000 soldiers to Haiti, a mission operating outside the UN framework. On November 3, Nayib Bukele stated on the X network that Salvadoran helicopters had intervened to repel a gang attack targeting Chadian GSF soldiers.

The statements. The same day, the Salvadoran president published a message in Haitian Creole accusing certain Haitians of betraying the legacy of Jean-Jacques Dessalines by financing gangs. At the same time, the UN confirmed having received a letter from Wilson Joseph, alias "Lanmò San Jou," requesting mediation, while specifying that this receipt does not constitute approval or recognition of the author.
