Democrat Ed Markey won re-election to the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, defeating Republican John Deaton. In June 2026, Markey introduced Senate Bill 4814, which aims to grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to eligible Haitian nationals through April 20, 2029.
Markey’s bill is currently pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee and faces continued uncertainty alongside a House-approved Haiti TPS measure that was blocked in July. Despite facing a primary challenge from Rep. Seth Moulton, Markey secured another term in the Senate, where he has served since 2013.
The Associated Press declared Markey the winner at 8:01 p.m. EST on Tuesday.
