A federal court in Puerto Rico has sentenced Víctor Pérez Fernández to forty-five years in prison. This sentence, announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Héctor Ramírez Carbó, follows his acknowledged participation in the murder of a police sergeant.

The sentence. Federal Judge María Antongiorgi Jordán handed down this penalty of 540 months in prison on Tuesday. This federal decision punishes offenses related to drug trafficking and the possession of firearms. The defendant admitted his participation in the death of Sergeant Eliezer Ramos Vélez, a member of the Puerto Rico Police Department.

The plea. Pérez Fernández entered his guilty plea on June 10, 2026. He admitted his participation in a conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and the possession of a weapon in furtherance of drug trafficking. His plea agreement incorporates the application of federal sentencing guidelines specific to homicide, which explains the severity of the penalty.

The network. According to federal authorities, the criminal organization carried out its activities in several public housing complexes. The targeted areas include Sabana Abajo, Luis Llorens Torres, Los Mirtos, Jardines de Monte Hatillo, and neighboring zones. The group distributed heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, and other substances.

The accomplices. The investigation was conducted by the FBI, and the prosecution is being handled by several federal prosecutors. The other four defendants in the case have also acknowledged their role in the sergeant's death. Luis Isaac Sánchez, Olvin O'Neill Concepción Tapia, Daniel López Vega, and Andiel González Sáez pleaded guilty in June 2026, and their sentencing hearings have been scheduled for Friday, October 23.
