The Jarry industrial zone in Guadeloupe was cleared on Wednesday after a full day of waiting marked by multiple disruptions. The authorities ordered the intervention of law enforcement as well as the clearing of the roads to restore traffic. |
The roadblocks. The "Nou Las Palé" collective had set up several roadblocks blocking all access points leading to Jarry. Piles of tuff and rubble were placed on the roadways to make traffic particularly difficult for users. |
The stance. Prefect Thierry Devimeux refused to meet with the group behind this movement. He stated that he has already been working in collaboration with other representative organizations for several weeks. According to him, it is impossible to accept that a minority of people should block Guadeloupe's economy. |
The intervention. Heavy machinery was requisitioned on-site to clear the roads and allow the Guadeloupean economy to function normally. This clearance operation was carried out to restore traffic throughout the industrial zone. |
The tensions. After a calm pause observed in the late afternoon, the situation became tense again at the beginning of the evening. Some members of the collective attempted to hinder the cleanup work. A new roadblock was thus established and burning debris on the roads was reported. |
