The Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, Ms. Jennifer Locetta, welcomed the Council's vote and emphasized that the arms embargoes do not apply to sales or transfers of weapons to the Haitian government aimed at peace and security. She also called on Haiti to regulate the eel trade, a commerce that funds armed groups.
The Panamanian representative to the Security Council stressed the need to include new individuals in the sanctions lists, particularly those profiting from their power and contributing to the financing of criminal bands. He also highlighted the importance of controlling networks that enable gangs to continue their activities.
On his part, the French representative recommended accelerating the deployment of the Gang Repression Force (FRG) and blacklisting individuals supporting or financing gang members. He also underscored the importance of strengthening border controls to stem illegal arms flows.
