St. Croix Educational Complex High School has opened its doors to serve as a voter center for upcoming elections, according to The St. Thomas Source.

Meanwhile, Dr. Guerda Nicolas and her partners have taken significant steps toward helping deported Haitians rebuild their lives with dignity in Haiti. On October 28, 2026, the BED ROCK reception center was officially inaugurated near Cap-Haïtien by a coalition of 38 organizations from Haiti and the diaspora.

The BED ROCK center aims to provide administrative assistance, professional guidance, educational support, and psychosocial services to returning migrants. Services include help with obtaining passports, tax identification numbers, enrolling children in school, and connecting qualified individuals with employment opportunities.

Dr. Nicolas highlighted her vision for a soft landing that would allow returnees to reconnect with their communities and regain economic independence when Le Floridien first covered the initiative on August 10, 2026. The center's inauguration marks an important milestone towards realizing this goal.

Haitian-American Psychologist Makes Good On Promise

Dr. Guerda Nicolas, a University of Miami professor and psychologist, has been instrumental in developing the BED ROCK reception center. Her vision centers on providing practical assistance to help returnees rebuild their lives with dignity after deportation or voluntary repatriation from the United States.

The project also includes Ayiti Home Link, a digital platform designed to facilitate registration for returning migrants' needs and connect them with available support services.

Collaborative Effort

The initiative is supported by 38 organizations based in Haiti and abroad. Dr. Geralde Vital Gabeau has emphasized the importance of restoring hope and dignity to Haitians facing challenges upon return, reflecting a broader mobilization effort.

While the opening marks an important first step, the long-term impact will depend on consistent service delivery, sustainable funding, and measurable results for those it aims to assist.
