Dominican authorities expelled 40,521 of the 44,414 Haitians they detained in October 2026 for lacking regular migration status, according to HaitiLibre. The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) ran the operations with the armed forces, the Dominican National Police (PND) and other security bodies, at several sites across the country.

Checks on farms and agro-industrial sites

DGM teams inspected agricultural holdings and agro-industrial projects in several provinces, among them San Francisco de Macorís, Moca and San Juan. Nearly 700 Haitians in an irregular situation were identified during these inspections over the month.

Businesses in the capital area and the east

The operations also reached commercial establishments in the provinces of Duarte, Peravia, San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana, and in the National District. In Santo Domingo province, they covered Km 9, Luperón, Independencia, Av. Ecológica, Villa Mella, Sabana Perdida, Girasoles and Pantoja. The aim was to check the status of the people present and to assess the working conditions of foreign employees.

Training for migration staff

The DGM also took steps to train its operational and administrative personnel. The goal is better monitoring and verification of the status of foreign workers, along with better service to the people affected. The report says these steps were taken with national and international partners but does not name them.
