Trainee teachers from the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) of the State University of Haiti are keeping up pressure on the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP). On Wednesday, November 4, 2026, members of their placement and appointment committee spoke to the press outside a ministry annex in Delmas 83, demanding appointments in the school system and payment for the work they did during their placements, Vant Bèf Info reports.
There are 292 of them, from the 2018, 2019 and 2021 classes, in philosophy, literature, natural sciences, chemistry, mathematics and physics, according to the site. They are also calling for more transparency in the appointment process and for the ministry to honor an agreement signed on May 22, 2013. The committee says all the required documents, including certificates confirming the placements, have already been sent to the MENFP, with no final answer so far.
A road blocked on October 29
The week before, on Thursday, October 29, students from four ENS classes and from the Centre de formation pour l'enseignement fondamental (CFEF), joined by the Co-CFEF union, blocked the road outside the ministry's offices in Delmas 83 from 10 a.m., Le National reports. They denounced unkept promises by Minister Vijonet Déméro after several meetings. "We are asking them to pay us our placement money and to appoint us," ENS student Sonick Estiverne told the paper in Haitian Creole.
The trainees say the delays are making the school system's problems worse and could affect official exam results. They are calling on the minister to act and say they will keep pressing until the matter is settled. The MENFP had not responded publicly, according to Vant Bèf Info.
