On Wednesday, November 4th, 2026, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández, Minister of Defense for the Dominican Republic, stated that trade and other routine operations along the border with Haiti are continuing as normal. Following a tour of main border crossings in Dajabón, Elías Piña, Jimaní, and Pedernales, he confirmed this to the media.

"The nearest gangs are located toward Mirebalais (in the Centre Department) and Croix-des-Bouquets (on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince)," Fernández said. "They are not as close to the border as some have suggested."

The tour occurred amid heightened operations against armed gangs in Haiti, including a search for four Salvadoran military technicians who were targeted in an ambush on October 18th.

In late October, the Dominican government deployed two additional battalions and heavy equipment along its border with Haiti. This reinforcement brings the total number of military personnel to approximately 11,000.

Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza commented that "the Government of the Dominican Republic must exercise great caution in how it engages with this conflict." He added that any action not adhering to established procedures risks prolonging the conflict and harming relations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Nevertheless, Paliza indicated that the Dominican government is providing El Salvador with logistical support, information, intelligence, transit of military equipment, and medical assistance "should the need arise."

Furthermore, he asserted that if additional measures become necessary—such as closing the border—the Dominican government would act according to circumstances.
