Hurricane Simon hit Mexico's Pacific coast on Monday, causing property damage and one death. Authorities are closely monitoring the progress of this meteorological phenomenon, which has moved slowly along the coastline, as forecasts predict further developments.

The tragedy. A 71-year-old man lost his life during this weather event. His death occurred following the collapse of walls in the city of Chilpancingo, located in the state of Guerrero. Governor Evelyn Salgado communicated this information while speaking at the daily presidential press conference.

The situation. The hurricane lost intensity as it slowly progressed along the coast, reducing the threat of severe destruction. In Puerto Vallarta, the area experienced clear skies and mild conditions despite initial concerns regarding significant impacts. On-site, tourists exercised along the coastal promenade, while waves continued to crash forcefully.

What's next. The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) has established forecasts concerning the continuation of the disturbance's trajectory. The system is thus expected to reach the locality of Mazatlan, in the state of Sinaloa. This arrival is scheduled for Wednesday evening, with the phenomenon then presenting as a category 1 tropical storm.
