A conference led by Me Ketnor Estinvil was then organized for students from local schools, aiming to introduce them to the history and evolution of their commune. A football match between police officers from the Arniquet commissariat and municipal employees followed, accompanied by artistic performances and a drum show.
According to Marie Bernadette Génois, deputy mayor, these festivities highlighted the historical and cultural importance of Arniquet. The commune was established in 1976 thanks to the initiative of Deputy Joseph Daniel Delimon.
The local economy is mainly based on agriculture, although topographical constraints limit its revenue. Marie Bernadette Génois indicated that Arniquet's agricultural production feeds Les Cayes and other neighboring communities.
Road infrastructure remains a major challenge for Arniquet, requiring improvements to facilitate the transport of agricultural products and access to essential services. The commune has a 125-year-old Catholic church, considered its main historical heritage.
Infrastructure Challenges
Several sections of the communal roads are in poor condition, complicating travel and the transportation of agricultural products. Improving the road network could boost the local economy and enhance the quality of life for residents.
