During the conference, Joseph Gallonde, president of the Liannaj pou Lang Kréyol Matinik (LLKM) association, highlighted the importance of translations in Creole: LLKM works to shed light on the technical and cultural aspects of French-to-Creole translation. We encourage those with experience in this field to join us.

Marie-José Desnel, a specialist in Creole, stated that teaching Creole is improving over time: more and more schools are offering Creole as a main subject. People are less hesitant and more interested in mastering this language well.

Isambert Duriveaux, writer and artist, explained his method for translating into Creole: translating a French text into Creole requires an understanding of the context and a good level of mastery of Creole.

Cultural Events

The activities also included book presentations, discussions on the place of Creole in universities, and reflections on contemporary production in Creole.

Creole is spoken by approximately 400,000 to 420,000 people worldwide. The conference attracted many participants, reflecting a renewed interest in this language and its culture.

Future Perspectives

The association continues its work towards the recognition and development of Creole through various educational and cultural initiatives. Volunteer translators will continue their mission, enriching the local linguistic heritage.
