Haiti has not played match in DR for over three years
Haiti has not organized a soccer match in the Dominican Republic since 2023, according to Le Nouvelliste. This comes as tensions continue following incidents during an Oct. 1 Concacaf Nations League game where Haitian fans allegedly broke into the stadium and star striker Wilson Isidor celebrated with nationalist statements.

Dominican Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz initially banned Haiti from playing in Dominican sports facilities after the match, but later clarified that the ban only applies when Haiti is designated as the home team, according to The Haitian Times.
The Haitian Football Federation defended Isidor's comments, stating they were a celebration of his identity rather than an attack on Dominican sovereignty. However, José Deschamps, president of the Dominican Football Federation (FDF), condemned these remarks and filed complaints with FIFA and Concacaf.
Before the Oct. 1 match, large crowds gathered at Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo for a sold-out event that carries significant historical and political weight beyond sports rivalry. The game took place on the eve of the anniversary of the 1937 massacre when Dominican forces killed thousands of Haitians along their shared border.
Dispute
Isidor's celebration, where he shouted "Hispaniola is Haiti," has sparked controversy with some officials interpreting it as a threat to Dominican sovereignty. Patrice Dumont argued that such declarations are common in football culture and should not be misinterpreted by authorities.
Dominican President Luis Abinader initially supported Cruz’s decision but tensions remain high due to ongoing issues related to migration, border security, and disputes over the Massacre River canal project.
Aftermath
Despite initial chaos around stadium entry gates and tear gas being used on celebrating Haitian fans inside the venue, both teams maintained good sportsmanship during and after the match. Fans from Haiti even cleaned up sections of the stadium before leaving.
