El Salvador deploys more than 2,000 soldiers to Haiti

El Salvador sent at least 2,000 soldiers to Haiti on Wednesday, October 28, as part of what it describes as a "large-scale" operation. According to San Salvador, this mission aims to rescue four soldiers who have been missing since an ambush by armed gangs ten days ago. The disappearance of these members of the Gang Repression Force (FRG) on October 18 led to the massive and rapid deployment of troops, outside of the existing international framework.
The Salvadoran decision comes after the attack suffered by the Haitian soldiers. The exceptional scale of this operation suggests that it has broader objectives than the direct rescue of the missing soldiers, potentially disrupting the fight against armed violence in Haiti.
