Three elderly people are set to leave a Carolina facility that is under investigation. The Departamento de la Familia announced on Friday that it has begun the process of relocating them. The facility is suspected of operating without the required permits.

The three residents still on-site

Two elderly women and one man are still at the location. According to preliminary information gathered by the Departamento, they suffer from various health issues that require care and monitoring. Employees from the Departamento will remain on-site until the relocation is complete. In the meantime, housing solutions are being determined based on each individual's needs.

The ongoing inspection

Agents from the Oficina de Licenciamiento for the Carolina region visited the site. They were tasked with inspecting the facility and verifying whether it complies with the laws and regulations applicable to elderly care centers. In a written statement, the agency affirmed that its priority is the safety, protection, and well-being of the elderly. It added that it mobilized this staff as soon as the report was received. The findings of the inspection have not been released.

Closures recorded in 2026

During 2026, the Departamento recorded 58 closures of facilities dedicated to the care of individuals. Fourteen targeted clandestine operations and thirteen involved situations of institutional abuse. The other 31 concern structures that ceased their operations voluntarily or failed to meet regulatory requirements. These figures were provided by the agency.

The Departamento will continue its evaluations and administrative procedures related to the intervention in Carolina. It must also organize the continuity of care for the three residents.
