About the programme

The price of rice, the value of the gourde, the cost of a bus ride or a bag of cement: the economy shows up first in everyday life. Ekonomi, NAGO News's business programme, starts from those realities to explain what is happening in the markets, in business and in household finances, over an hour late in the morning.

The programme assumes no background in finance. Ideas are explained simply, figures are put in context, and every story comes back to the same question: what does this change for people? A shift in the exchange rate does not have the same effect on an importer, a market trader, an employee paid in gourdes or a family receiving money from abroad. Ekonomi sets out to show those differences. Stories range from the neighbourhood market to trade with other countries, always brought back to examples anyone can recognise from their own life.

For many Haitian households, money sent by the diaspora counts in the budget, and the country's economy is closely tied to that of relatives living in the United States, Canada or France. The programme therefore speaks to both audiences: those who live with prices day to day in Haiti, and those abroad who want to understand their family's situation. Among the morning's programmes, it is the one that looks at the news through the lens of the wallet.
