Testimony: people telling what happened to them in their own words and at their own pace, with no scripting and no narration over the top.
Here, it is the people themselves who speak. Temwayaj gives the floor to people telling what they have lived through, in their own words and at their own pace. No one writes a script for them, and no narrator steps in to sum up their story or tell them what to conclude from it.
That choice changes the way you listen. An unscripted testimony has its hesitations, its silences, its going back over things, and that is often where what matters lies. The programme leaves those moments in place rather than cutting them to move faster. The viewer hears an account as it is told, and remains free to take from it what they will. There is no dramatic music added, no reconstruction, no commentary steering the emotion.
Testimony has long held an important place in the life of Haitian churches, where it is customary for believers to stand up and share what God has done in their lives. Temwayaj carries that practice onto the screen, for those who are not in the congregation. Placed at the end of the morning, between Bible study and the midday prayer, it brings a different kind of speech: no longer the explanation of a text, but one person's experience. It is for everyone, in Haiti and across the diaspora, and especially for those going through a trial of their own.
