Tax fraud in Long Island

By the NAGO newsroom

A Brooklyn jury has found a Long Island professional guilty on multiple counts in a vast federal tax fraud case. This legal proceeding highlights massive falsification methods orchestrated over several years to the detriment of the U.S. tax administration.

The charges. A Brooklyn jury found Frantzson Saintilien guilty of 18 distinct counts for preparing false tax returns between 2019 and 2023. The defendant operated a business located on Elmont Highway in Elmont, New York, where he worked for clients covering the 2018 through 2022 tax years. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, these actions characterize an individual who was actually posing as a tax return preparer. Federal prosecutor Joseph Nocella Jr. even described the defendant as a serial fraudster.

The modus operandi. The indictment details how the professional used various methods to artificially inflate his clients' tax refunds. He resorted to fictitious business expenses, fabricated losses, and fake fuel tax credits. In many files, the individual also secretly diverted a portion of these undue refunds directly for his own profit.

The financial harm. Federal prosecutors estimate that this entire organized fraud cost the federal government more than a million dollars. This figure reflects the total economic impact of the false statements submitted throughout the entire period the business operated.

The potential penalties. Following this guilty verdict handed down by the jury, the individual faces very heavy legal repercussions. He effectively faces up to 54 years in prison as well as significant financial penalties when his sentence is officially handed down.
