The Haitian national team lost 2-0 to Costa Rica last Sunday in San José during the fourth matchday of the Concacaf Nations League. Despite this first setback in the competition, the Grenadiers secured their qualification for the quarter-finals.

The match. The game played at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa quickly turned in favor of the hosts right from the start of the match. Carlos Mora opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Andrey Soto doubled the lead in the twenty-first minute. Rónald Matarrita provided the assists for both of these Costa Rican goals.

The statistics. Despite ball possession being shared almost equally between the two teams, the Grenadiers failed to hit a single shot on target throughout the entire match. Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas thus had no saves to make, while the Haitian defense held firm after the break by stopping the opponent's other attempts. According to Concacaf, official statistics indicate expected goals of 0.63 for Costa Rica compared to 0.28 for Haiti.

The standings. At the end of this phase, Curaçao leads Group A with ten points, while Haiti maintains second place with nine points and a goal difference of +4. A few hours after the Haitian defeat, the Dominican Republic's victory over Nicaragua confirmed the Grenadiers' qualification. Haiti thus joins the group of eight teams still competing in League A.

The outlook. The next stage of the competition is set for November with two-legged matches in the quarter-finals. The identity of Haiti's future opponent will depend on the final results and the rankings established by Concacaf. Head coach David Badia and his squad are therefore preparing for this continental deadline.
