American Airlines will resume daily service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Cap-Haïtien Hugo Chazez International Airport starting Sunday, November 1. The airline's spokesperson, Laura Masvidal, confirmed the news in an email to The Haitian Times.
The resumption of American Airlines' operations comes after nearly two years of suspension due to security concerns. Flights will operate daily using Boeing 737 aircraft from Miami to Cap-Haïtien, offering a new direct connection for travelers between the United States and Haiti's second-largest city.
Masvidal expressed excitement about resuming service: "We are thrilled to be resuming service to Haiti this weekend with daily service from our Miami hub to Cap-Haïtien."
The return of American Airlines provides an additional travel option, particularly important for Haitian immigrants and their families. However, it does not resolve broader challenges facing the country's aviation sector or restore service to Port-au-Prince, which remains under a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ban until March 2027.
Gilson Morusma, a Fort Lauderdale resident and native of Haiti’s Northwest who often travels through Cap-Haïtien, welcomed the news. "I am happy over the news of American Airlines resuming its operations in Haiti," he told The Haitian Times. He noted that while ticket prices are competitive with local carriers like Sunrise Airways, travelers will still need to weigh factors such as flight schedules and baggage handling.
