Early morning prayer before the day begins — intercession, a passage of scripture, and room left for prayer of your own.
Before the coffee, before the news, before the first phone call, there is prayer. Priyè Maten opens NAGO Gospel's day in the small hours, while everything is still quiet, with an hour given over entirely to prayer.
The programme follows a simple order. First comes intercession: prayer for others, for families, for the sick, for the country. Then a passage of scripture is read, offered as a support for prayer rather than as a sermon. Finally, the programme deliberately leaves time open, with no words imposed, so that each person can pray in their own way and in their own words. Nothing is rushed at that hour: a full hour leaves time to pray without hurrying, and to pick up the thread again if you stepped away for a moment.
Rising early to pray is a familiar habit for many Haitian believers, in Haiti and across the diaspora. Priyè Maten is for those who keep that discipline alone at home, for those who leave early for work, and for those who wake before dawn and cannot get back to sleep. It sits between the night's praise, wordless and without a voice, and the spiritual songs that follow: it is the only moment in these early hours when prayer is spoken aloud, together, before the day really begins.
