Four technicians missing after an ambush
The incident occurred on October 18 in Croix-des-Bouquets, where an armored vehicle transporting four Salvadoran aeronautical technicians to their camp came under attack. The attackers used explosives and firearms, which caused the military vehicle to catch fire. Although the occupants managed to escape the burning vehicle, their whereabouts remained unknown as of Tuesday, October 20, with no confirmation that they had been found.
Troop retention and political debate
This event comes as a law promulgated on October 2 in San Salvador extends the participation of the Salvadoran army in the Gang Suppression Force until October 2027. The lack of news regarding the four soldiers is now fueling political discussions in El Salvador concerning the risks faced by this personnel deployed abroad.
