Wilbur Welcome, director of the DOA, stated that these revisions would modernize the importation process while preserving necessary standards to protect the archipelago. Among the changes are additional restrictions concerning certain banned dog breeds: Pit Bull Terriers, Dogo Argentinos, Fila Brasileiros, and Japanese Tosa, as well as their varieties.
The DOA has also removed the requirement for a rabies titer test for animals coming from territories classified as low risk for rabies. Health requirements will now depend on the risk profile associated with the country or territory of origin.
The revised rules now require a digital signature on official health certificates issued by accredited veterinarians. The DOA continues to seek technical feedback to refine these new regulations before their implementation.
Varying Requirements Based on Origin
Owners are encouraged to check the specific requirements applicable to their animals and the country or territory from which they come. Failing to meet these conditions could result in dogs and cats not being admitted to the Cayman Islands.
