UNESCO condemns the murder of Joseph Willard Vancol
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) condemned last Friday the murder of Haitian journalist Joseph Willard Vancol. The Director-General of UNESCO, Khaled El-Enany, spoke on this issue in a statement published on September 29.

Joseph Willard Vancol was found dead in Petit Boukan in the commune of Gressier on September 9. According to available information, he had been kidnapped by members of an armed gang at the Institute of Technology and Animation on August 20.
In his statement, Khaled El-Enany emphasized that “Impunity for such crimes is unacceptable and must not be tolerated.” He also called on Haitian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this case.
Joseph Willard Vancol was a journalist and teacher. He ran the community radio station Ti Boukan FM, where he hosted programs titled “Words for Change” and “Organizing Ourselves.” Additionally, he held the position of coordinator at the training center of the Institute of Technology and Animation.
In his statement, Khaled El-Enany also stressed the need to bring those responsible to justice. UNESCO continues its efforts to enhance the security of journalists and carries out awareness campaigns as well as capacity-building actions.
