78 years ago, on November 1, 1948, Abner Dubic was born in Léogâne, a Haitian painter whose canvases celebrate peasant life.

A vocation that came early

While still a child, he left Léogâne to settle in Port-au-Prince. In 1966, he picked up a paintbrush for the first time, with the support of the painter Gabriel Lévêque, who came from Croix-des-Bouquets. A few years later, he joined the workshops of the Galerie Issa. He remained exclusively attached to it until 2005, the year the founder, Issa El-Saieh, passed away.

The countryside as a subject

Dubic taught himself his craft and forged a style all his own. He chose to paint primarily the rural world: country landscapes, the daily life of peasants, and the typical houses of the hinterland.

Works exhibited far away

In 1975, his paintings were shown in Paris and Auxerre, under the sponsorship of André Malraux and Jean-Marie Drot. Subsequently, his works circulated in numerous galleries, in the Caribbean, in New York, Boca Raton, and Chicago, in Mexico, as well as in Strasbourg.
