The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) announced on Friday, November 6, 2026, that it supports Gianni Infantino for another term as FIFA president in the 2027 election, The Associated Press and the Antiguan newspaper Antiguan Trumpet reported. According to AP, the CFU has 31 member associations, 25 of which hold voting rights at FIFA.
According to Antiguan Trumpet, the 25 FIFA-affiliated member associations collectively endorsed the incumbent after a consultation and approval process. "The CFU emphasizes that it determined its collective position through consultation with its member associations," the organization's statement said, as quoted by AP.
Caribbean football development cited
The CFU points to FIFA's investments in infrastructure, technical programs, competitions, youth and women's football, Antiguan Trumpet reported. According to AP, the regional body says these programs have helped many Caribbean associations that operate with limited financial and human resources.
The CFU attached expectations to its support: it says it continues to call for "increased transparency, good governance, and meaningful reform," and expects FIFA to ensure that every member association is "fairly represented and served," according to the statement quoted by AP.
A second bloc behind Infantino
According to AP, the CFU is the second major voting bloc to publicly back Gianni Infantino, after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and its 47 associations last month. The FIFA president recently made two trips to the Caribbean, including this week, to secure the bloc's support despite controversy over his aborted plan to open the World Cup to private investors. The election is set for March 2027 and the deadline for candidates is November 18, the agency said.
