Joverlein Moïse, the eldest son of former president Jovenel Moïse, has returned to Haiti after nearly five years away. He landed on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Cap-Haïtien International Airport, Vant Bèf Info reports. On arrival, he went to Village SOS to pay his respects at his father's grave, according to the site.
Joverlein Moïse also registered on the electoral roll, as voter registration continues ahead of the coming elections, then headed for the Nord-Est department, Vant Bèf Info reports. The program for his stay there has not been made public. Footage broadcast by Radio Télé Guinen shows him, microphone in hand, addressing a crowd of supporters.
A return shaped by his father's assassination
Jovenel Moïse was assassinated on the night of July 7, 2021, at his private residence in Pèlerin 5, in Port-au-Prince. More than five years later, the circumstances of the killing still raise questions, and the case remains at the center of the country's political and judicial concerns.
In July 2025, in a letter to U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, Joverlein Moïse asked U.S. authorities not to extradite to Haiti several people held in the United States whom he accuses of involvement in his father's assassination, arguing that the Haitian justice system could not give them a fair trial, according to Vant Bèf Info. Also a singer, he has made a name for himself from Quebec, according to Radio-Canada, with music about violence and the political crisis in Haiti.
