Haiti bans customs transit via the Dominican Republic

Minister Serge Gabriel Collin announced in a circular on Friday that goods imported from third countries will no longer be allowed to transit through Dominican territory before arriving in Haiti. These products must be presented to Haitian customs services and subjected to regulatory controls, as well as appropriate taxation.

The circular dated September 30, 2026 aims primarily to prevent the use of the Dominican Republic as a platform to evade Haitian customs controls. However, cross-border trade in goods produced in the Dominican Republic remains authorized via official land border crossings.

Furthermore, the Dominican Republic banned the Haitian national football team on Friday from playing matches on its territory following an incident that occurred on October 2 during the "Hispaniola derby" between the two nations.
