Concacaf announced a new format for the 2027 Gold Cup on Thursday, November 5, 2026: the 16 teams will be split into two groups of eight instead of four groups of four, the Associated Press, carried by The Washington Post, ESPN and Haiti Tempo report. Each team will play four group matches instead of three, against four different opponents from its group.

The 16 teams will be placed in eight pots of two, based on the Concacaf men's national team rankings, with one team from each pot drawn into each group. A set schedule is meant to balance each team's opponents by ranking, Haiti Tempo says. The top four in each group will advance to the knockout stage.

Draw on April 8, 2027

The draw will take place on April 8, 2027, and the tournament runs June 17 to July 11, 2027. The field will include 15 Concacaf nations plus guest Saudi Arabia. The remaining spots will be decided through the 2026-27 Nations League and the Gold Cup preliminary round in March 2027.

"The Gold Cup is the premier men's national team competition in our region," Concacaf president Victor Montagliani said, presenting the reform as a way to deliver more marquee matchups in the group stage. Not everyone is convinced: in Haiti Tempo, columnist Gary Eliézer wrote that the format "borders on the ridiculous."
