Brazil elections: disillusionment fuels the far right
Brazilians will head to the polls on Sunday, October 4, to elect their president, choosing between Lula, the current leftist head of state, and Flavio Bolsonaro, the far-right candidate. This election is crucial because it could see the son of controversial former president Jair Bolsonaro come to power.
According to RFI – Amériques, Flavio Bolsonaro's policy proposals are similar to his father's: fighting insecurity and economic liberalization. The candidate is less charismatic than Jair Bolsonaro but benefits from the support of dissatisfied voters.
Le Monde – Amériques points out that a victory for Lula could be hindered by a Senate favorable to far-right ideas, which would complicate his political management. The results of the October 4 general elections are therefore of considerable importance.
