On October 30, 2026, Digicel Haiti issued a press release acknowledging that protecting telecom infrastructure is the responsibility of the authorities. The company is asking the government led by Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to secure the cables and guarantee safe access for its technical teams.

According to Rezo Nòdwès, Digicel apologized to customers affected by a fiber cut that occurred on October 27. The company says its network suffers around twenty cuts a week and that some 200 sites have been destroyed or made inaccessible over the past two years.

In the release, Digicel attributes the destruction of the cable to the felling of trees to build barricades. That wording, however, has been criticized as overly cautious and hypocritical. The company acknowledges that its technicians risk their lives in areas controlled by armed gangs.

Digicel stresses the need to protect critical infrastructure and ensure safe access for its technical team, but still refuses to name those responsible for the abuses outright. This cautious stance limits its appeal to a modest step forward, stopping short of directly denouncing the armed gangs.
