Davis, 63, was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury on August 31. He will not be eligible for parole until after forty years of incarceration. The verdict marks a significant milestone in one of the most famous criminal cases in hip-hop history.
Prosecutors argued that Davis had orchestrated the murder, even though he did not pull the trigger himself. They relied on Davis's statements in interviews and memoirs published in 2019 to establish his guilt.
The trial lasted nine days with the prosecution presenting thirty witnesses led by prosecutor Binu Palal. The defense, led by attorney Michael Sanft, sought to discredit Davis's previous statements by highlighting contradictions within them.
Davis had been arrested after an incident in a casino lobby where his nephew was allegedly attacked. Shakur and his associates were then targeted in Las Vegas, leading to the artist’s death six days later.
During the trial, Davis stated that he had provided the weapon used in the murder and that his nephew Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson was the one who fired the shots. However, other witnesses present on that day have since died, limiting the possibility of obtaining direct evidence.
His attorney announced an intention to appeal the verdict.
