A two-day training session held on October 28 and 29 in Pétion-Ville brought together representatives of more than twenty institutions to go over the rules of Haiti's new Tax Code, which has been in force since October 1, 2026. According to Vant Bèf Info, the Institute of Internal Auditors of Haiti (IIA-Haiti) organized it in a hybrid format because the text has raised questions among the professionals and institutions affected.
Who Took Part
According to Vant Bèf Info, the participants came from the banking, financial, business and institutional sectors, among others. The seminar was titled "Tax Risk Management: Better Understanding the Provisions of the New 2026 Tax Code in Haiti". The discussions aimed to deepen knowledge of the new rules and their effects on the day-to-day management of organizations.
What the Institute's President Said
At the close, Nathanaël Jean-Louis, chairman of the Board of Directors of IIA-Haiti, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of institutions and the quality of the discussions. In his view, mastering the Code is an important matter: businesses and institutions need to know what their tax obligations are.
He also spoke about governance and sustainable development, two concepts that, in his view, should matter in how Haitian institutions operate. He stated that auditing cannot be separated from good governance. The State, businesses and organizations must, he reminded his audience, meet today's needs without compromising those of future generations.
In a country marked by severe economic hardship and persistent social inequality, he calls for governance that pays attention to social and environmental realities.
Purpose of the Training
The Institute says it wants to foster a better understanding of the Code. It also hopes to encourage professionals to pay closer attention to tax risk management within their institutions.
