About the programme
Zouk Lanmou starts with the love songs. In the first part of the hour, the ballads take the screen, the ones that hold a whole room and get anyone who knows the words singing under their breath. Then the programme moves on to the up-tempo end of the genre, the side that makes you want to move.
Zouk was born in the French Antilles and found a place across the Caribbean, Haiti included, where it lives alongside konpa. The programme reflects that shared history: you hear Haitian artists and Antillean artists alike, and old records play next to new ones. Moving between them shows how the genre has changed while keeping what makes it gentle.
In the late morning, just after the conversation of Atis Nan Studio and before the Midi Mizik mix, Zouk Lanmou offers a softer hour in a day of mostly rhythmic music. For the diaspora settled in the United States, Canada or France, these songs often bring back family parties and evenings with friends. For younger viewers, it is a way to discover the tracks their parents used to listen to.
