Haitian rap has its own hour on NAGO Music. Rap Kreyòl Zòn is given over to rap and hip-hop in Kreyòl, setting this week's releases beside the records that built the scene.
That face-off between new and old is the heart of the programme. A track released a few days ago takes on a different meaning when you hear it right after one that paved the way: you pick up an influence, a way of placing the words, a way of talking about everyday life. There are freestyles and guest verses too, and now and then the first play of a video.
Rap kreyòl has become one of the voices of Haitian youth, at home and in the big cities of the diaspora. It tells of the street, the neighbourhood, exile and hope, in a language everyone understands. Rap Kreyòl Zòn gives it a full hour in the early afternoon, between the friendly mood of Midi Mizik and the return of the videos of Videyo Non-Stop. It is a slot for those who follow the scene closely, and for anyone who wants to understand where it comes from.
Every day. Live on nago.tv, on the NAGO Music channel.
