Portmore United will play in the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup final. They lost the return leg of the semi-final 2-1 to Violette AC at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, on Wednesday, but went through 4-3 on aggregate. Portmore had won the first leg 3-1. The result also earns them a place in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup, according to Haiti Tempo and the Jamaica Observer.
How the match unfolded
Tedj Bryan put Portmore ahead in the 21st minute. Haiti Tempo reports that the goal came from a rebound after goalkeeper Gooly Elien parried the ball. Violette needed to win by at least two goals to progress and trailed until late in the game.
Maxime Jeanty equalised in the 73rd minute, and Roberto Jean then put Violette in front. Violette never found the extra goal that would have levelled the tie.
Where the sources disagree
The two outlets differ on when Jean scored. Haiti Tempo gives the 87th minute, while the Jamaica Observer says the 83rd.
The final and what follows
Portmore will meet defending champions Mount Pleasant in an all-Jamaican final on December 1 and 5, according to both Haiti Tempo and the Jamaica Observer. The Jamaica Observer adds that at least one Jamaican club has reached the Caribbean Cup final in each of the last four years. It also says this is the first time two Jamaican clubs have met in the final of the Caribbean Club Championship since Harbour View played Tivoli Gardens in 2004.
Haiti Tempo says Violette will now play Sando in the third-place match.
Support from Port-au-Prince before kickoff
HaitiLibre reports that Pythagore Dumas, the Minister of Youth and Sports, expressed confidence in the "Vieux Tigre" before the return leg. It also reports that he sees public backing as extra motivation for the players and technical staff.
