Jamaïque : PNP Vows Legal Fight Over Clarendon Injunction
The People's National Party (PNP) has condemned an injunction issued on Friday that blocked its bid to take control of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation. The party stated it will challenge the order in court, asserting that democratic governance must reflect a clear majority.

In a news release, the PNP noted "the ex parte interim injunction allegedly granted this morning on the application of the minority mayor and deputy mayor of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation to prevent today's duly convened special meeting from being held." Deputy Mayor Tanya-Lee Williams had attempted to cross party lines during Thursday’s municipal corporation sitting but was ruled inadmissible due to procedural issues.
Legal Challenge
The PNP emphasized that it holds a 12-10 majority and vowed to restore democratic governance. "What has happened today is profoundly anti-democratic," the party said, adding that they will take steps to set aside the ex parte order obtained without notice or representation of their councillors. If successful, this would allow for a meeting to pass resolutions restoring majority control.
Political Tensions
The injunction comes amid political tensions following Williams' announcement of her intent to leave the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and join the PNP. This move was previously ruled inadmissible due to procedural violations during Thursday’s sitting.
