Aubourg highlighted several priorities, including improving farmers' access to quality seeds, appropriate equipment, advisory services, and modern technologies. He stressed the importance of rehabilitating irrigation infrastructure, better water resource management, and farm modernization to increase yields and support producers.
In light of climate change, natural resource degradation, insecurity, and supply chain disruptions, Aubourg advocated for resilient agri-food systems that can withstand shocks and preserve rural livelihoods. This includes developing sustainable hydro-agricultural infrastructure, soil conservation, crop diversification, and financing mechanisms tailored to crisis-affected producers.
The minister also underscored the importance of strengthening early-warning systems to better prepare for interventions and mitigate disaster impacts on agricultural production. He emphasized reducing post-harvest losses through improved storage, preservation, processing, and transport capacities to safeguard produce, boost producer incomes, and improve consumer access to local food products.
Aubourg called for technical and financial partners to align their support with national priorities established by Haitian authorities and contribute to the sustainable development of institutional capacities. The goal is better project coordination, rigorous monitoring, and lasting results that endure beyond program implementation periods.
