Choirs, live from the sanctuary and from the archive — full anthems with the parts audible and the ensemble in frame rather than a soloist.
In a choir, no one sings alone. Choral starts from that principle and holds to it on screen: the camera shows the ensemble rather than a soloist, and the sound lets every section be heard, from the high voices to the basses, so you can hear the harmony as it was rehearsed. The choir is treated as a single instrument, and that is how it is filmed.
The choirs are captured in two ways. Some are recorded live from the sanctuary, with the church's acoustics and the congregation present. Others come from the archive, which means older performances worth hearing again get another airing. Either way, the anthems are shown in full, verses and choruses included, with no fade in the middle of a phrase and no cut before the final chord. It is a programme you listen to as much as you watch.
The choir holds a central place in many Haitian churches, in Haiti and across the diaspora, and many people have sung in one at some point. Choral is for those choristers, current and former, for choir directors looking for repertoire ideas, and for anyone who loves to hear voices answering one another. Placed in mid-afternoon, after the Kreyòl gospel and before Mesaj Espwa, the programme offers a steadier hour, focused on the shared work of singing rather than on a star.
Every day. Live on nago.tv, on the NAGO Gospel channel.
