A book reading and meeting with the Mahoran writer Yasmina Aouny will take place on Saturday, October 31 at 10:30 AM to close the Pink October campaign of the Madora store. She will present "Crab Births," her first play. The event is open to everyone, and it is not necessary to have read the book to attend.

According to L'Info Kwézi, the meeting takes place at Madora Carrefour. Mayotte Hebdo also locates the event within the store of the same brand in Carrefour.

What the play tells

The work follows five Mahoran and Comorian women facing breast cancer. It deals with the silences surrounding the disease, family ties, loneliness, and reconstruction once treatments are over.

According to L'Info Kwézi, it is a fiction inspired by human, social, and cultural realities rooted in Mayotte. The media adds that it also addresses invisible violence and life after treatment, and that the author mixes narratives, dialogues, and poetry, choosing theater to give space to these experiences.

The morning's schedule

Yasmina Aouny will go back on the birth of the book and her choice of theatrical writing. Readings of excerpts will punctuate the exchanges before opening up to questions from the audience.

The author

L'Info Kwézi reminds that Yasmina Aouny is a writer and teacher. She is the author of "The Tickler," which won the first prize "Write Feminine" in 2020. According to the same media, she continues work around memory, transmission, and social realities of the island.
