Flights between Haiti and the United States are not resuming "normally": the only confirmed resumption is by American Airlines, which relaunches a daily Miami–Cap-Haïtien service on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Port-au-Prince's Toussaint Louverture International Airport remains closed to US carriers until at least March 2, 2027.

A video shared on Instagram this week claims that "flights between Haiti and the United States are resuming normally", giving two different dates, October 24 and October 28. No US government decision to that effect could be found.

Cap-Haïtien, not Port-au-Prince

American Airlines announced its return on Friday, June 12, 2026, according to Reuters. It is the first US airline to announce a return of scheduled flights to Haiti. According to the Caribbean Journal of October 22, the airline will operate one flight a day between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien on a Boeing 737, with premium seating and free Wi-Fi. A ribbon-cutting is planned in Miami on launch day.

According to the schedule published by the Caribbean Journal in July, the flight leaves Miami at 10:15 a.m. and lands in Cap-Haïtien at 12:15 p.m. The return leaves at 1:15 p.m. and arrives in Miami at 3:15 p.m. The Caribbean Journal notes that this route is separate from American's former Port-au-Prince service, for which no restart date has been announced.

Ban on the capital extended

Since November 2024, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has barred US airlines from serving Port-au-Prince, after gunfire hit aircraft near the airport. In early September 2026, according to the Associated Press, the FAA extended the ban again, this time to March 2, 2027. Commercial operators and US-registered civilian aircraft may not fly below 10,000 feet (about 3,000 meters) over Port-au-Prince and nearby areas, including parts of central Haiti.

The FAA does allow flights to other cities. According to Reuters, it had reopened six airports: Port-de-Paix, Cap-Haïtien, Pignon, Jérémie, Antoine-Simon (Les Cayes) and Jacmel. The FAA also says armed groups have attacked at least three aircraft in the restricted zone since September 2025.

The diaspora already had other options. According to The Haitian Times, Sunrise Airways and IBC Air run limited flights to the United States from Cap-Haïtien and Les Cayes. For now, no major US airline has resumed scheduled flights to the capital.
