Reynold Guerrier, the general director of the National Identification Office (ONI), downplayed these figures by explaining that a large number of errors are due to incorrect or random data entry. He affirms that the system automatically rejects any incomplete registration and specifies that some national identification numbers (NINU) were entered incorrectly.
Guerrier confirmed the existence of criminal networks that produce fake identity cards, known as Ti Jocelyne. These counterfeit documents closely resemble the real ones and can be rejected by the system when used to register.
The director recommended that citizens verify the authenticity of their identity cards with the ONI, which currently produces more than 85% of the cards needed for the estimated electorate population. He assures that various methods such as hologram verification or security codes can be used to determine if a card is genuine.
