The Financial Oversight and Management Board has approved the allocation of $20 million for Puerto Rico's Housekeeper Program. This fund finances services offered by 65 municipalities to eligible individuals who need help at home. Governor Jenniffer González Colón announced the decision. None of the 65 municipalities will receive less than they did during fiscal year 2026.

The funds are included in the certified budget for fiscal year 2027. They cover nutrition, hygiene, personal care, home assistance, and health support.

A Decision Notified on October 19

The Board communicated its approval by a letter dated October 19, 2026. This letter is addressed to the executive director of the Oficina de Gerencia y Presupuesto (OGP), Orlando Rivera Berríos. It responds to a request filed by the agency on September 18.

How the $20 Million Is Distributed

Fifteen million dollars follow criteria applied during fiscal years 2025 and 2026. These criteria take into account the demographics, income level, and fiscal capacity of municipalities.

The remaining five million dollars are distributed according to a formula designed and presented by the OGP. It aims to ensure a minimal level of support for participating municipalities.

Among the amounts announced:

- Juana Díaz and San Sebastián: $550,000 each.

- Rio Grande: $499,800.

- Cabo Rojo: $494,000.

- Isabela: $492,100.

- Camuy: $484,800.

- Manatí: $483,000.

- Aguada: $453,700.

What the Governor and OGP Say

The governor stated in writing that this fund reflects her government's policy of supporting municipalities and improving the quality of life for the population. According to Noticel, she added that the approval will allow them to continue strengthening services for the elderly and other individuals who need home assistance.

Orlando Rivera Berríos emphasized that the approval allows for a distribution based on the needs and fiscal capacity of each municipality. He noted that no participant will receive less funding than last year.

Municipalities must adhere to eligibility conditions set in financing agreements they will sign with the OGP.
