Private sector calls for credible elections

The organizations emphasize that the situation of displaced persons and residents of hard-to-reach areas must be taken into account in the organization of the vote. They demand credible monitoring of the electoral process as well as increased transparency, including regular publication of information on funding and security measures.

The statement also refers to one published by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) on September 21. The organizations are calling for a detailed assessment of technical, financial, and security capabilities before officially setting the date of the vote. They highlight that the Gang Repression Force (FRG), called upon to support security forces during elections, is not yet fully operational.

To ensure the proper conduct of elections throughout the territory, they are calling for the accelerated deployment of the FRG. The organizations also invite political parties and civil society to play an active role in this democratic process.

Requirements for the Credibility of Elections

The four organizations assert that Haiti needs to emerge from its current political instability. However, they believe that an election without sufficient guarantees would not resolve the crisis of confidence.
