Saint Kitts and Nevis celebrates its 43rd anniversary of independence

Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley highlighted the progress made by the country and the ongoing efforts to strengthen water security, energy independence, economic empowerment, and national resilience. According to Radio Télévision Caraïbes, he stated that more than 70% of residents now have access to water available 24 hours a day.

Hanley also emphasized several initiatives such as an increase in the minimum wage and the Aspire program which promotes financial education among youth. He stressed that true independence is not measured solely by the passage of years but also by our ability to meet the needs of our citizens and withstand external shocks.

On this anniversary day, Hanley reminded that it is possible to turn challenges into opportunities. He specifically referred to desalination of seawater as a potential source of national security for the country.

Saint Kitts and Nevis remains a sovereign state while maintaining its constitutional monarchy and membership in the Commonwealth since 1983. Independence Day is still an important occasion for citizens both at home and in the diaspora, celebrating the past, current achievements, and the future of the country.
